Alton "Hoss" Lee Cartwright
Alton “Hoss” Lee Cartwright, age 79 years, of Whitley City, Kentucky died Sunday, June 26, 2022 at his home.
He was born in Camden, Arkansas on August 14, 1942 the son of Rev. Howard and Betty (Langley) Cartwright. Hoss had retired after 20 years and 6 months as a Warrant Officer from the US Army, during his military career he met the love of his life Marisue (Ball) Cartwright, whom he married August 6, 1979. Upon retirement they moved to Virginia where he retired from Computer Sciences Corporation, they moved back to Kentucky to be close to family. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, racing, golfing, and spending time with his family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Leslie Cartwright; and father and mother-in-law, Rev. Phillip H. and Myrtle Ball.
Survivors include his wife of almost 43 years, Marisue Cartwright of Whitley City, Kentucky; sons, Phillip Howard Cartwright of Whitley City, Kentucky and Clifton Cartwright of Germany; daughter, Bettina Birkicht of Germany; grandchildren, Eric Birkicht, Anna Birkicht, and Rebecca Cartwright; brothers and sisters-in-law whom Hoss loved dearly, Roger and Donna Ball of Pine Knot, Kentucky, Doris and Bill Woodward of Ohio, Ruth and Roy Vahle of Nicholasville, Kentucky, Ray and Trish Ball of Pine Knot, Kentucky, Lindell Ball of Corbin, Kentucky, Patsy and Ronnie Kidd of Strunk, Kentucky, and Jerry and Wanda Ball of North Carolina; and a host of nieces, nephews, and special friend, Colonel Jim Mourea.
Funeral services will be held 7pm Thursday, July 7, 2022 at the McCreary County Funeral Home with Bro. Darren Kidd officiating. Cremation will follow. The family will receive friends after 5:30 pm Thursday at the Funeral Home.
