Earl Edward Sumner

Earl Edward Sumner, age 65 years, of Pine Knot, Kentucky died Monday, August 14, 2023 at the Jean Waddle Care Center in Somerset, Kentucky.

He was born in Jellico, Tennessee on September 27, 1957 the son of Jerome and Nellie (Bryant) Sumner. Earl had been a Deputy Jailor at the McCreary County Jail and was a member of the Day Ridge United Baptist Church. He enjoyed fishing, whittling, playing pool, and being in nature.

His parents; brothers, Willard Sumner and Donnie Sumner; and sisters, Reba Sumner, Myrtle Bryant, Minnie New, and Mary Murphy precede him in death.

Survivors include his brothers, Roger Sumner (Emma) of Walton-Verona, Kentucky, Troy Sumner (Lydia) of Minnesota, and Lonnie Sumner (Char) of Pine Knot, Kentucky; and sisters, Lorene Reason (Ricky) of Rocky Mount, North Carolina and Peggy Sumner of Pine Knot, Kentucky.

Funeral services will be held 1pm Thursday, August 17, 2023 at the McCreary County Funeral Home with Bro. Ray Sumner and Bro. Ervin Foster officiating. Burial will follow in the Barren Fork Cemetery. The family will receive friends after 11am Thursday at the Funeral Home.
