Earlene “Deanie” Spradlin, of the Flat Rock community, passed peacefully at her residence on August 15, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family.

Deanie was born to the late Nola and Willis Carter. She lived a life centered around faith, family, and caring for others. A devoted homemaker, wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, she spent her life giving freely of herself to those she loved. Throughout the years, she also helped care for numerous nieces and nephews, leaving each of them with special memories of her kindness, warmth, and nurturing spirit.

On December 30, 1967, she married the love of her life, Fred Spradlin. Together they built a life and family that remained among her greatest treasures. Her devotion to Fred continued long after his passing, and the love they shared remained forever in her heart.

In addition to her parents, Deanie was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Fred Spradlin; brothers, Coy Carter and James “Jim” Carter; sisters, Verde “Katie” Stephens, Bertha Monroe Ellis, and Linda Martin; sisters-in-law, Diane Tucker and Gerlline Bryant; and brother-in-law, Calvin Spradlin.

Those left to cherish her memory include her three children: her son, Kenneth Spradlin and wife Lisa, of Strunk, Kentucky; her daughter, Kimberly Dawn Spradlin, of Whitley City, Kentucky; and her daughter, Hope Renea Daugherty and husband Timothy, of Pine Knot, Kentucky.

She was especially proud to be the grandmother of her two grandsons, Matthew Kenneth Spradlin and Andrew Thatcher Daugherty. Her grandsons brought tremendous joy to her life, and spending quality time with them was among her greatest pleasures. The love and memories they shared with their grandmother will remain with them always.

She is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Tilda Lynch and Kaye Robertson; brothers-in-law, Roger Spradlin and Boyce Dean Spradlin; a host of loving nieces and nephews; many extended family members and friends; and her special friends, Audrey Jones and Linda Griffith.

A woman of the Christian faith, Deanie carried her beliefs throughout her life and found comfort in the promises of God. Her faith was reflected not only in what she believed, but also in the love, compassion, and devotion she showed to her family and those around her.

Deanie found happiness in the simple pleasures of life. She enjoyed gardening, working puzzle games, reading, watching her favorite Western television shows, and listening to music—especially Gospel and Motown. Music held a special place in her heart, from the comfort and promise found in the Gospel songs of her faith to the familiar Motown songs she loved through the years. An avid reader who enjoyed keeping her mind busy, she could find contentment in a good book or puzzle and happiness tending to her garden.

Deanie’s life cannot be measured simply in years, but in the generations she loved and cared for. She was a devoted wife, a loving mother, a proud grandmother, a cherished aunt, and a faithful friend. Her hands helped raise and care for many, her home welcomed family, and her love became part of the lives of those fortunate enough to know her.
