GENEVA SHOOPMAN STEPHENS

Geneva (Wright) Shoopman Stephens, age 91, of Monticello, Kentucky, formerly of Winfield, Tennessee, passed away Sunday, November 22, 2015, at the home of her daughter, surrounded by her loving family.

Geneva was born June 9, 1924, in Winfield, Tennessee, to Robert Dewey and Sudie (James) Wright.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Arnold Shoopman, a son, Archie Shoopman, a grandson, Wayne Shoopman, a sister, Mildred Smith, two brothers: Roy Wright and James (Buddy) Wright. In 1996, she married Lawrence Stephens, who also precedes her in death.

In 1940, she married Arnold Shoopman and to this union 11 children were born; six sons and five daughters.  The ten surviving children are:  Roger (Lois) Shoopman of Stearns, James Roy (Glenda) Shoopman of Berea, Robert (Debbie) Shoopman of Stearns, Jerry (Carolene) Shoopman of Stearns, Paul Shoopman of Loudon, Tennessee, Edna Lucille Shoopman of Monticello, Delois (Glen) Jones of Monticello, Faye (Lonnie) Jones of Stearns, Lena (Bronnie) Jones of Monticello, Kathy (Howard) Jones of Winfield.

Surviving brothers and sister are: Charles Wright of Winfield, Robert (Hazel) Wright of Pioneer, Tennessee, Mac Wright of Winfield and Anna Lee Wright of Huntsville, Tennessee.  She leaves behind 24 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren and 17 great, great-grandchildren.

Geneva was a member of the Winfield Baptist Church and a loving Christian wife, mother and grandmother.  She loved sewing and made many beautiful quilts.  Flowers were her special hobby and she had many of them.  Also, she was a bluegrass gospel fan and the Primitive Quartet was her favorite group.

Funeral services:  11:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 25, 2015, at McCreary County Funeral Home with Bro. George Coffey and Bro. Rufus Hughes officiating.  Music by the East Apple Tree Church Choir

Burial:  Sherd Dobbs Cemetery, Stearns, Kentucky

Visitation:  5:00 – 9:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 24, 2015
