James Loyd "Dee" Cox

James Loyd “Dee” Cox, age 79 years, of the Smithtown Community died Monday, October 7, 2024 at his home.

He was born in Whitley City, Kentucky on October 30, 1944 the son of the late Willie Elmer and Mabry (Thomas) Cox. James had owned and operated the Tri-County Enterprises and was a member of the Ross Grove United Baptist Church where he had served as Pastor for approximately 15 years. His enjoyments in life were Serving the Lord and being with his family especially the grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his daughter, Larissa Deanne Cox; brothers, Morville Lee Cox, Willie Elmer Cox, and Lanny Cox; and sisters, Barbara Hollers, Joy Watson, Judy Clark, Mary Griffith, and Linda Ridener.

Survivors include his wife, Ivadean (West) Cox of Smithtown, Kentucky; son James Loyd Cox, Jr. (Christy) of Burnside, Kentucky; daughter, Mabra Lynn Cox-Tull (Joey) of Springdale, Ohio; brothers, Jimmy Darrell Cox of Stearns, Kentucky, Walter Payne Cox of Sidney, Ohio, Michael Ray Cox of Pine Knot, Kentucky, John Ridener of Somerset, Kentucky, Chris Cox of Pine Knot, Kentucky, and Jerry Watson of Mt. Vernon, Kentucky; sisters, Patricia Ann Crabtree of Stearns, Kentucky, Libby Poe of Felicity, Ohio, Cathy Gowin of Stearns, Kentucky, Pam Hatfield of Whitley City, Kentucky, and Mona Lisa King of Whitley City, Kentucky; grandchildren, Natasha Cox, Courtney Clarke, Kristopher Slaven, Jacob Clark, Karlie Morrow, Kassie Morrow, Jamee Sumner, and Gracie Marlow; and great grandchildren, Jayden, Jaeven, Jeron, Jayla, Jalen, Carstyn, Chanley, Weston, Jensen, Noahlee, Everlee, Irelynn, Roman, Drexel.

Funeral services will be held 2pm Friday, October 11, 2024 at the Pleasant Rock United Baptist Church with Bro. Joe Whitehead, Bro. Conley Garland, and Bro. Stanley Vaughn officiating. Burial to follow in the Angel Cemetery. The family will receive friends after 12pm Friday at the Church.
