Jean L. Sumner age 96 years, of Marshes Siding, Kentucky died Sunday, November 3, 2019 at the Corbin Health and Rehab in Corbin, Kentucky.
She was born in Somerset, Kentucky on February 5, 1923 the daughter of Oscar L Sharpe and Georgia (Fish) Sharpe Blythe.
Jean was a member of the Flat Rock Missionary Baptist Church, and had worked as a school cook and custodian in the McCreary County School System and had driven the Bookmobile for the McCreary County Public Library. She loved cooking, sewing, flowers, yard work, camping, watching and feeding the birds, but her main love in life was all her family and their gatherings.
Her parents; husband, Mark Sumner; son, Larry Sumner; grandson, Lance Murphy; son-in-law, Robert Stephens; daughters-in-law, Maedean Sumner and Charletta Sumner; and brothers, Dwight Sharpe and Robert Sharpe precede her in death.
Survivors include her sons Charles Sumner (Carol) and Gerald Sumner both of Marshes Siding; daughters, Sue Stephens of Somerset and Patty Murphy of Lexington; sister, Kathryn Koger of Somerset; grandchildren, Mark Sumner (Stephanie), Kyle Sumner (Donna), Marlo Sumner, Renee Haynes (Eric), Rusty Sumner, Rocky Stephens (Sheila), Amy Strunk (Mike), Stacy Hoskins, Chad Sumner, Dustin Stephens (Leslie), Heather Martin (Justin), Dennis Sumner (Leigha), and Becky Begley (Buck); 32 great grandchildren; and 5 great great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 6, 2019 at 2pm in the McCreary County Funeral Home with Bro. Danny Staley and Bro. Roger Bryant officiating. Burial to follow in the Taylor Ridge Cemetery. The family will receive friends after 6pm Tuesday, November 5, 2019 at the Funeral Home.
