Melvin Coffey

Melvin Coffey, age 78 years, of Stearns, Kentucky died Monday, January 30, 2023 at the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital in Somerset, Kentucky.

He was born in Wolf Creek, Kentucky on October 8, 1944 the son of Leroy and Flora (Branscum) Coffey. Melvin was a coal miner for the Stearns Coal and Lumber Company, and a member of the Lower Wolf Creek United Baptist Church.  He enjoyed fishing running around with his cousins, and watching WWE with his brothers.

His parents; brothers, Milford Coffey and Randy Ray Coffey; and sister, Rosalee Coffey precede him in death.

Survivors include his brothers, Bobby Coffey and wife, Judy of Pine Knot, Kentucky, Alfred Coffey of Stearns, Kentucky, and Othel Ray Coffey of Stearns, Kentucky; sisters, Merk Smith of Whitley City, Kentucky, Hazel Strunk and husband, Charlie of Stearns, Kentucky, Martha Taylor and husband, William of Whitley City, Kentucky, Betty Coffey of Stearns, Kentucky, and Opal Mae Coffey of Somerset, Kentucky; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held 1pm Friday, February 3, 2023 at the McCreary County Funeral Home with Bro. David Clark officiating. Burial will follow in the Corder Cemetery. The family receive friends after 6pm Thursday at the Funeral Home.
