OPAL LOUISE NEW

Opal Louise New, age 78, of Whitley City, Kentucky, passed from this live Thursday, August 27, 026, at the Jean Waddle Care Center in Somerset, Kentucky.

She was the daughter of the late Bernard and Lena (Hill) Haynes. Besides her parents, she is preceded in death by brothers Stanley Edward Haynes and Otis Ray Haynes and sisters Katherine Sulliven and Tina Canada.

Surviving family include a son Dillard Alex New (Stacy) of Berea, Kentucky, and daughters Mary Burchfield (Eddie) of Winfield, Tennessee, and Nancy Bartley (Eddie) of Somerset.

Surviving sisters are Marie Gregory of Monticello, Kentucky, Lois Beaty of Eubank, Kentucky, and Magdalenia Ballou of Burnside, Kentucky, and brothers Jerry Haynes and Billy Haynes both of Greenwood, Kentucky.

Her grandchildren are Robyn Heineman, Ashley Newman, Tre Chadwick, Brittany Bowling, Jacob Jones, Emily Jones and Jacklyn Stephens.

Opal was a homemaker and member of the Greenwood Missionary Baptist Church. She enjoyed reading, gardening and flowers.

Funeral services will be held Monday, August 31, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of McCreary County Funeral Home with Tim Corder officiating. The family will receive friends Monday from 12:00 noon until time for services at the funeral home. She will be laid to rest at the Sloans Valley Cemetery.
