Paul Anton Worthington, 85, of Stearns, passed away on Sunday morning, July 2, 2017. Born at his family’s home on May 7, 1932, in Sherman, Kentucky, Paul was a proud veteran of the United States Navy, an avid hunter and fisherman, and loving husband and father and grandfather.
His service to our country in the U.S. Navy included two tours on the Bon Homme Richard (CV-31) and one tour aboard the USS Badoeing Straight (CVE-119) as a Radioman during the Korean War. Paul was a dedicated member and leader in the American Legion for more than 60 years, holding numerous leadership positions over the decades at his local Post #115 (Stearns, KY) but also at the regional, state, and national levels. A champion of veterans and veterans’ rights, Paul was elected as the American Legion’s Department of Kentucky Commander for the years 2002-2003, an office he held with the highest regard and distinction.
Paul is preceded in death by his father and mother, Charles and Carolina Worthington, as well as his elder siblings: Robert, Frederick, Charles, and Elizabeth. Paul is also preceded in death by his wife and the mother of his six daughters, Phyllis Ann Worthington, and, most recently, Linda Worthington, his wife of 28 years and a loving step-mother to his adult daughters.
Paul is survived by his sister Louise Lloyd of Indianapolis, IN; daughters Stacy Brooks of Clinton, TN; Dana Worthington, also of Clinton, TN; Paula Anderson of Tucker, GA; Amy Pickle and husband Robert of Knoxville, TN; Nancy Worthington of Whitley City, KY; and Margaret Worthington of Dalton, GA. He is also survived by his 13 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren as well as numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday, June 10, 2017 at the McCreary County Funeral home beginning at 12:30 pm, visitation from 10:30 am until service time with burial to follow in the Mill Springs National Cemetery.
