Rocky Lee Owens

Rocky Lee Owens passed from this life on November 13, 2021 at the age of 64. He was born in Somerset, Kentucky on May 3rd of 1957 to the late Patsy Leon Owens. He lived most of his life in the Beulah Heights community of McCreary County and was recently a resident at Signature Healthcare in Pine Knot.

Rocky is preceded in death by his mother, several aunts, uncles, cousins, and special friends.

He is survived by his sisters, Melanie Owens Taylor and Cathy Ball. His brother, Johnnie Owens (wife Karen). As well as his 8 nieces and nephews and 15 great nieces and nephews. Uncle Sheral Jones (wife Linda), Aunt Marilyn Sumner (husband Ray), and Aunt Peggy Gabbard. And several special cousins and countless friends.

Rocky was a member of the North McCreary Fire Department since 1980 where he was a dedicated lieutenant and volunteer. He was also a member of the Eagle/Sawyer Fire Department since 1991. He was team manager for the high school boys' basketball team, which was the first team from McCreary County to play in the Sweet Sixteen. He also was team manager for many softball teams. It was during these special times that he gained lifelong brothers and friends.

He was a member at Indian Creek Baptist Church.

Throughout his life, Rocky enjoyed; fishing, camping, Kentucky basketball, porch sitting, family reunions, listening to music, cooking, spending time at the firehouse, playing cards, activities within the nursing home, spending time with his nieces and nephews, and most of all socializing.

Rocky has made an everlasting impact on everyone who knew him. He will be remembered as a great friend to countless people. Rocky had a heart of gold and such a pure soul. He was filled with so much life, love, and personality. He will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

The family will receive friends after 6pm Tuesday, November 16, 2021 at the McCreary Funeral home. Funeral services will be held at 1pm Wednesday, November 17, 2021 with burial to follow at Barren Fork Cemetery. Bro. Bill Patrick to officiate.
