Rudy Wayne Terry, 70, of Somerset, KY, passed away peacefully on October 6, 2026. Wayne was born in Smithtown, KY on February 28, 1956 to Wilma (Foster) Roberts and was the eldest of her nine children. He was a man of few words, big opinions, and an even bigger heart.
Wayne loved many things. His snack of choice was Reese's and Dr. Pepper, but he had an extraordinary sweet tooth. You could easily mistake his room for a candy store. He found comfort lounging on the couch watching the Game Show Network or old tv shows. But he was equally comfortable outdoors - hiking, exploring, or fishing. He collected guns, coins, and toy trucks. And he even grew his own tomatoes, because, as he would tell you, you can't get a good tomato in the store.
But above all else, Wayne loved his family. He was devoted to them. Though he worked as a driver for UPS in Lexington for nearly four decades, Wayne made that two hour drive twice a day so that he was home almost every night. Because of that, you may not have always seen him, but he was always there. Sometimes just sleeping in the other room after the late-night drive home.
And that devotion continued with his grandchildren. He saw them every day. And I mean every day. You could set a clock by his visits, in which he played with them to their hearts' content. It was a time of pure joy, silliness, and warmth. With them his life was full, and with Wayne, ours was too.
He showed his love by being there, day after day, year after year. And he will continue to do so. We may not see him, but he is always here. Just sleeping in the other room.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Wilma (Foster) Roberts; and brother, Randall Roberts; and sister, Twanna Clark.
Wayne is survived by his wife, Thara (Young) Terry; children, Ashley and Whitney; his grandchildren, Audrey and Max; and his siblings, Bruce Foster, Gerald Roberts, Sherrell Roberts, Juwanna Sampson, Jennifer Roberts, Tammy Roberts, and Jeanine Roberts.
Funeral services will be held 1pm Friday, October 9, 2026 at the McCreary County Funeral Home with Bro. Danny Staley officiating. Burial will follow in the Nancy Grave Cemetery. The family will receive friends after 11am at the Funeral Home.
