Virgil Lee Higginbotham, of Carlisle, Kentucky, departed this life at the Willowbrook Healthcare in Carlisle, Kentucky on June 5, 2026 being 86 years, 1 month, and 15 days old. He was born in Sawyer, McCreary County, Kentucky on April 21, 1940, the son of the late Ancil Thomas and Mandy (Perry) Higginbotham.
Virgil spent most of his life in Florida and was a retired employee of a Blacktop Company. He lived in Indiana several years and worked at the Goodwill Industry. He was a member of the Paris Christian Chapel, Paris, Kentucky. Virgil was an ordained minister, he enjoyed attending to his garden, taking care of his lawn, and fishing in his free time. He loved spending time with his brothers and sisters. They would all get together at least once a year.
Virgil is survived by a daughter, Jammie Higginbotham and step-daughter, Carolyn Lachapelle, both from Florida; a brother, Roscoe (Debbie) Higginbotham, Carlisle, Kentucky; two sisters-in-law, Claudia Higginbotham, Mayflower, Arkansas, and Sylvia Perry, Fredericksburg, Virginia, and too many nieces and nephews to name with special nieces, Becky Jolly and Linda Caldwell.
Preceding Virgil in death were his parents; wife, Opal; sisters, Elizabeth Hicks, Gracie Higginbotham, Addie Mae Perry, Rayma Dean Frantz, Daisy Herrington Elise Fay Lutes, and Gola Jane Floyd; and brothers, Clarence Higginbotham, Herbert HIgginbotham, Roy Clifton Higginbotham, James Luke Perry, Albert Higginbotham, Mintford Carlos Higginbotham, and Noah Higginbotham; and two unknown infant children.
Funeral services will be held 2pm Monday, June 8, 2026 at the Pleasant Knob United Baptist Church with Rev. Tim Jolly, Rev. Don Jolly, and Rev. Daniel Perry officiating. Burial will follow in the Pleasant Knob Cemetery. The family will receive friends after 11am Monday at the Church.
